Life in Leeton
Why we live and work in Leeton!
There’s sign as you enter our town that says 'Leeton welcomes settlers, immigrants and refugees'. We have been doing so for over 100 years, and our community reflects the diversity of the Wiradjuri people, descendants of early Italian immigrants and a wide variety of newcomers who call Leeton home.
Wagga Wagga is the largest regional city in NSW and not that far away, with every facility and specialist shopping requirement, but most regular household shopping is done at Woolworths, ALDI and a large IGA. Restaurants reflect our diversity, with Italian, Indian, Turkish, French, Chinese, Macca’s as well as great hotel dining facilities and a welcoming Soldiers’ Club close to the golf course.
Newcomers to Leeton remark on its family-feel. There are several excellent schools, including for special-needs, and an agricultural high school. In addition to the local hospital, there are multiple medical practices, dental surgeries, physiotherapy, pathology and radiology. Families can be seen biking, hiking, fishing and camping as they enjoy the climate and scenic surroundings provided by the mighty river. Sporting enthusiasts have a range of facilities, from the ever-popular large Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre to multiple sportsgrounds and an indoor stadium.
Some of our employees live on surrounding farms and small holdings, to really benefit from the best of country life, while others commute from nearby Narrandera and Griffith.
Accommodation out here is surprisingly affordable to those who move from the big cities. Home ownership or rental comes in at about half (or less) compared with the equivalent city prices, making country living an attractive proposition.
