Project Updates

Council's Delivery Program and Operational Plan are structured around Strategic Goals identified in our Community Strategic Plan.

The 2023/24 capital works program is largely one of completion and includes works on the following important community projects:

Canal Street Rehabilitation

A number of projects to stimulate the Shire’s economy will also continue in 2023/24, including the expansion of the Leeton Early Learning Centre and progressing of the WRConnect freight intermodal.

Canal Street Rehabilitation

The project was initiated in April 2023 to upgrade the road infrastructure, which involved digging out and replacing the old road and substituting it with a new, high-quality surface. These upgrades will ensure a smoother, more comfortable and secure journey not just for the community but also heavy vehicles, such as road trains and trucks, that frequently use this road to bypass the town centre.

Leeton CBD Enhancement Project Phase 3 - Chelmsford Place

Phase 3 of the CBD enhancement project focuses on the refurbishment of the Chelmsford Place Promenade and seeks to realise Walter Burley Griffin’s original design intention of a central town square.

Roxy Community Theatre Redevelopment

The Roxy Redevelopment Project will see adaptive re-use and restoration of the facility to achieve a multifunctional and fully accessible Theatre and civic space that honours the building's special heritage values.
