Last night, the Roxy forecourt and exterior of the theatre were crashed into when a motor vehicle driving dangerously around the Pine Ave/Wade Ave roundabout at approximately 10pm veered off the road.
To make matters worse, the driver did not stop and drove off. The police have started an investigation with Council supplying CCTV footage of the incident as it unfolded.
Disappointingly, there has been damage to windows, the front door and the external building fabric, most of which is original. The extent of the damage is being closely examined.
Deputy Mayor Cr Michael Kidd said this was a careless and senseless act which could have had serious consequences for the driver and any passengers.
“It’s very disappointing that as a result of this action, Council is now faced with additional repairs to the exterior façade of the Roxy building which may have an impact on the works program,” he said.
