Leeton Shire Council Approves Tendered Quarry Rates for 2024-2026
Published on 30 October 2024
New tendered rates for a range of Quarry Products, including Blue Metal, Ballast Rock, General Road Base, Densely Graded Base and Densely Graded Subbase, were accepted by Leeton Shire Council last night at a confidential session of Leeton Shire’s October Ordinary Council Meeting.
The successful panel of companies are Colinroobie Quarries Pty Ltd, E.B. Mawsons & Sons Pty Ltd, L G Civil Pty Ltd and Regional Quarries Australia Pty Ltd. The tendered prices will be in place for a period of two years, covering the financial years 2024-2026 with an option for further extensions.
During the discussion, Councillors noted the exponential increase in prices in the above-mentioned products that, while to some extent expected and budgeted for in Council’s 2024/25 capital works program, will further challenge Council’s future financial sustainability.
Mayor Cr George Weston said Council requires large volumes of the material for the construction and maintenance of its expansive road network.
“Currently, Council sources its products from external providers. For the last ten years, the prices have been relatively flat in terms of rate increases and up until 30 June 2024 we were protected from any increases as there was a previous tender price locked in.
“With these increases in price across the range of quarry products, we are now looking at higher expenditure for the construction and maintenance of our Shire’s roads. Marrying this reality with our community’s desire to see road services improved is going to be a real challenge,” concluded Mayor Weston.
