Leeton Shire Council is excited to join in on the Local Government Week 2024 celebrations, running from Monday, 29 July, to Sunday, 4 August, with the aim to broaden the conversation beyond roads, rates, and rubbish, highlighting the vital and extensive roles councils play at the heart of their communities.
One of the key events during the week is a special Local Government themed Storytime Session at the Leeton Shire Library on Wednesday, 31 July 2024, from 10.30am to 11.30am. This family-friendly event will include stories read by Mayor Cr Tony Reneker and one of Council’s outdoor staff. Kids and parents will then have the unique opportunity to explore some of Council’s machinery (such as tractors, excavators and trucks), which will be situated in the carpark behind the library.
Mayor Reneker said, “Local Government Week is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the diverse and extensive services and facilities Council provides to the community.
“In addition to managing roads and waste, Council is responsible for pools, parks, playgrounds, libraries, local events, cemeteries, childcare centres, food safety checks, building and development, pet registrations, economic development, and much more,” he added.
Council will further support the event with a targeted social media campaign highlighting interesting facts and statistics about Council, achievements, and showcasing key Council services.
Leeton Shire Council invites the community to participate in the Local Government Week activities and learn more about the crucial role Council plays in everyday life.
