Leeton Shire Council has received funding from the NSW state government to review and update the Leeton Flood Study. The Flood Study Review will provide Council and the community with up-to-date flood information for the towns of Leeton, Yanco, Murrami, Whitton and Wamoon.

Residents of these areas are invited to contribute to the Study by sharing their photographs and experiences from previous flood events, which will help ensure the updated flood models reflect real flood behaviour in the study area.

The key objective of this study review is to improve understanding of flood behaviours and impacts, and better inform the management of flood risk through flood risk management, emergency management and land use planning.

Council is currently in the Data Collection and Review stage with Council’s consultant WMS Engineering gathering and reviewing all available information and past reports, including local knowledge and the community's experiences of flooding.

Residents have two opportunities to have their say on flooding in the LGA:

  1. Fill in a questionnaire about your experience(s) of flooding and drainage issues for the towns of Leeton, Yanco, Murrami, Whitton and Wamoon. The questionnaire can be filled in through https://arcg.is/1WOWyf. Hardcopies are available at the Leeton Shire Council offices (23-25 Chelmsford Pl, Leeton).
  2. Attend one of the community information drop-in sessions on Tuesday, 23 July 2024, starting at 5.00pm through to 7.00pm at the Leeton Shire Council Chambers (23-25 Chelmsford Pl, Leeton) or Wednesday, 24 July 2024, 9.00am to 11.00am in Pine Avenue (CBD Street Stall opposite Amcal Pharmacy). Community members are encouraged to bring along their photos of flooding and drainage issues to share. Photos can be on your phone or on a USB or memory card. Community members who have an interest in the study, or who have knowledge of past flooding or drainage problems around Leeton are highly encouraged to attend.
