Lost and found animals

Stray animals are impounded in the Leeton Shire Council Animal Pound (Impounding Facility).  If your animal is impounded you will need to pay an animal release fee.

Council maintains a register for lost and found animals in the Shire. 

Reporting a lost pet

If you have lost your pet, contact Council on 02 6953 0911 or council@leeton.nsw.gov.au and provide this information:

  • your name and contact details
  • your pet's name
  • your pet's registration number
  • a description of your pet
  • where and when your pet was last seen
  • your pet's microchip number (if applicable)

Reporting a found pet

If you have found someone’s pet or livestock, contact Council on 02 6953 0911 or council@leeton.nsw.gov.au and provide this information:

  • your name and contact details
  • the registration tag number (if available)
  • a description of the animal
  • where and when it was found
  • the microchip tag number (if available)

Livestock

Unclaimed livestock are held for a minimum of 7 days and may be sold through an expression of interest or auction process.
